Spring has arrived in southern France: after a weekend of snow and heavy rain the 1st April the Easter weekend has been warm and sunny almost everywhere with cherry blossom and tulips at every corner.
For those non-sporting types among our customers who flee at the mention of white water or powder snow we have re-vamped our 'city breaks' - a rather maligned concept dating back to the birth of low-cost aviation.
The idea is to find a cheap off-season flight into one of France's regional airports and explore lesser-known towns and cities for a few nights.
We have concentrated on the 'holy triangle' of TOULOUSE-ALBI-CARCASSONNE : mediaeval towns with rich histories and architecture, museums and 'bonnes tables' separated by rolling countryside rich in vineyards, villages and castles.
A choice of packages:
1. based in a city-centre 3* hotel in Toulouse to benefit fully from the night-life offered by this student-rich lively city more
2. based in a quiet 8th century abbey in the Tarn countryside. more
Suggested flights: Ryanair fly into Carcassonne from Stansted, Liverpool, Dublin and Shannon
BA, Flybe, BMI, easyJet and JET2 fly into Toulouse from London-Gatwick, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester and Belfast! (Jet2)
Aer Lingus do a Dublin-Toulouse summer service.
Another 'non-sporting' activity for the early summer is a visit to a Spa town in the Pyrenean foothills. Our 3* hotel has one of best restaurants in the region, the spa in Bagnères-de-Bigorre is a delight and we've included 2 special care packages per person as well as full use of the spa facilities. (This package makes a good present for a deserving spouse or parent). Access by Pau airport (Ryanair from Stansted) or Toulouse (see above).
Check it out here.
